Welcome to the Indian-Oasis Baboquivari Unified School District website. We are located approximately 60 miles southwest of Tucson, Arizona and are proud to be the kindergarten through 12th grade education center for the great Tohono O’odham Nation. Our district consists of all 3,400 square miles of the main Tohono O’odham Nation reservation within Pima County.  

We are honored to live in a region of great beauty in the Sonoran Desert surrounded by the majestic mountain ranges of  Santa Rosa, Sierrita, Combabi, Sand Tank, and Sauceds.

We are also proud of the dedication our student-focused staff members display each day as they educate our students.  Our teachers encourage opportunities for growth and believe in teaching from a holistic approach to ensure that our students’ minds, bodies, and spirits are equally nurtured. While we embrace our rich culture and make certain the Himdag is preserved, we also prepare our students to be well-equipped to thrive in the 21st century.

It is with great honor and pride that I serve as the superintendent of Indian Oasis-Baboquivari Unified School District. I want to take this opportunity to share a little about the transformation our school district is currently undertaking.

Since my arrival, I have been working closely with the IOBUSD Governing Board, teachers and staff, principals, parents, students, and community members to learn as much as I can about our community. As a result of these very valuable and informative conversations, we have put together a general plan that addresses key areas that will serve as our focus toward creating a highly successful learning environment; an environment that is highly conducive toward learning, where each of our students will achieve his or her potential.

Primarily, we have identified four key areas that will guide our work over the next several months:

1. Develop teaching and learning programs based on best practices that focus on student achievement.
2. Design a highly effective and efficient educational support services division: human resources, transportation, facilities, technology, and finance.
3. Establish positive and meaningful partnerships and relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the Tohono O’odham Nation, Tohono O’odham Community College, parents, students, teachers and staff, and the community at-large.
4. Develop a highly effective system of support for the governing board that leads to highly effective governance.
